News from the 93rd: November 2nd Newsletter

It’s November, which means Election Day, Flu season, and Thanksgiving are just around the corner! Keep reading for updates from the 93rd District, a recap of October, and news from across the Commonwealth.

Flu Shots and Covid Boosters

Flu season generally ramps up at the end of October and can last through May, so it’s best to get your flu shot early to be protected all season. No-cost flu vaccines are available at retail pharmacies and urgent care locations now through April 30, 2023. Find an in-network community care provider by choosing a location in the drop down menu of the VA locator. Choose from one of nearly 70,000 in-network retailers.

In addition, the new bivalent COVID-19 booster is also widely available now, including pharmacies and doctor’s offices. Peninsula Health District offers weekly COVID-19/ Flue walk-up vaccination events (appointments are recommended) for folks planning to get the new booster soon. Please call 757-594-8482 to schedule your appointment.

Apply for Student Loan Debt Relief and Avoid Scams

The initial Student Loan Debt Relief application is now OPEN! CLICK HERE

As a reminder, the relief is limited to people who made less than $125,000, or married couples or heads of households who earned under $250,000, in either 2020 or 2021. The application only requires basic information, including name, birth date, Social Security number, phone number and an e-mail address. Borrowers will not need to provide what is known as an FSA ID to log into the application, nor will they need to upload any documents, including tax records.

November 8th is Election Day!

Though Virginia state elections are not this year, many local elected officials and all members of the U.S. House of Representatives are on the ballot in this important election in November. Recent legislation in Virginia has moved all local elections, normally in May to November.

Whether in person or by mail, all Virginia voters are able to submit their ballots early. Make sure you are registered to vote, either by visiting this link or by visiting your local registrar’s office.

Early in-person voting ends Saturday, November 5th! You can check the websites of your local registrar’s office (James City CountyNewport NewsWilliamsburgYork) to find more information of where to go for in-person voting.

On Election Day polls are open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Visit I Will Vote to check your polling location and make a plan to vote.
